Ecological Assistant

The Egis Group is seeking an Ecological Assistant to join our Environment and Sustainability Team. This entry-level role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop a career in ecology.

The M25 DBFO is a flagship project in the UK, and our team plays a vital role in enhancing habitats through ecological and landscape improvement schemes. As an Ecological Assistant, you will assist the Biodiversity Net Gain Advisor on protected species surveys, botanical surveys, and biodiversity enhancement schemes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with protected species surveys, including planning and fieldwork
• Support botanical surveys for UKHAB
• Develop BNG and biodiversity enhancement schemes
• Conduct invertebrate surveys
• Plan and carry out ecological pond surveys
• Act as Ecological Clerk of Work on-site, supervising vegetation clearance
• Collaborate with our Design, Project Management, and Service Delivery teams
• Assist with Environmental Impact Assessments
• Input data using GIS
• Support air quality tube collections and ISO:14001:2014 environmental audits

Qualifications:

• Degree or qualification in environmental subject
• Full UK driving licence to drive a manual vehicle
• Knowledge of protected species, botanical identification, and survey methods
• Willingness for occasional night work for supervision purposes
• Member of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) – desirable
• Experience with GIS – desirable
