London, Greater London, United Kingdom Industry Placements Full time

At National Grid, our Electrical Transmission Asset Operations team is responsible for the management and optimization of physical assets to ensure their efficient and reliable operation. This involves activities such as monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance.

The goal of asset operation is to maximize asset availability and performance while minimizing costs and risks. As a Graduate Asset Management Engineer on our 18-month graduate programme, you will be working closely with stakeholders to achieve this goal.

As part of your role, you will contribute to big, exciting projects with real-life applications. For example, you might work on building a substation that provides electricity for hundreds of thousands of people or an under-the-sea interconnector that joins us to the European electricity grid.

We are committed to investing in sustainable energy and have allocated £24 billion over the next five years. Our mission is to lead the transformation towards a greener future, bringing a more affordable energy future to everyone.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working on-site alongside contractors and colleagues to fault fix, raise issues, and discuss design flaws.
  • Being part of a long chain of communication and being able to reliably absorb and share information with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Gaining knowledge of the electrical transmission system while working closely in teams of five or six with other more experienced members of staff.
  • Creating a safe working environment by sharing concerns or offering your opinion about potentially risky situations.
  • Producing a variety of reports, presentations, and Excel spreadsheets.

In return, we offer a competitive starting salary of £34,895 per annum, plus a £2,000 bonus once joined and started on the programme. Additionally, you will receive 26 days holiday, a £2,400 payment on successful completion of the programme, and up to £200 per month accommodation allowance when moving between placements.

Our graduate programme is designed to equip you with the essential skills required to succeed in your career at National Grid. You will attend in-person and virtual development sessions throughout your programme, including leadership, business, and technical skills training. We also offer access to Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) membership and support from a National Grid IET mentor to help you secure your chartership.
