Autism Specialist Psychologist Position in Cambridge

We are seeking an experienced Autism Specialist Psychologist to join our dynamic team in Cambridge.
About the RoleThis is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity for a Band 7/8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to contribute to the clinical work of our Adult Autism diagnostic and post-diagnostic pathway. The successful candidate will be supported in their development and expected to progress into a full-time 8a highly specialist clinical psychology position.
The role is varied and involves clinical diagnostic assessments, report writing, delivering post-diagnostic psychoeducation, clinical audit, and patient and public involvement. You will have excellent opportunities to carry out service evaluation, training, service innovation and improvement, and develop links with partner organisations.
Main Responsibilities- Manage a highly complex caseload, including planning and implementing appropriate assessment based on referral evaluation and triage of individuals referred for an autism assessment.
- Assess adults referred to the service with complex presentations and co-occurring conditions and offer written formulation, information and recommendations to them, their family and carers, and other professionals involved in their care.
- Administer, score, and collate data on specialist assessment measures/tests, including physical manipulation of test materials to specified protocols, data input, and interpretation.
- Contribute to a programme of training and development for all staff within CPFT to improve skills in working with individuals presenting with autistic features (before or after diagnostic confirmation) and co-occurring conditions.
- Utilise research skills for audit, policy, and service development and research within the area served by the Team/Service.
- In addition to diagnosis, assess risk and mental health conditions and liaise with other services and/or GP to ensure client safety and appropriate support.
- Contribute to the screening of referrals to the service and help with prioritisation and responses to clinical queries to the service.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of a programme of psychoeducation for individuals recently diagnosed with autism.
- Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), or Counselling Psychology, as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies, and lifespan development psychology.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) (or eligibility for registration if not yet qualified).
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and treatment of service users across the full range of care settings, including out-service-user, community, primary care, and in-service-user settings.
- Experience of working therapeutically with people with a diagnosis of autism or waiting for assessment who have mental health difficulties.
- Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for service users' psychological care and treatment under supervision and/or within the context of a multidisciplinary team setting.
A competitive salary of £65,000 - £85,000 per annum, dependent on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package, including generous annual leave, pension scheme, and access to continuing professional development opportunities.
