About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to join our Commercial Insurance team at Aviva. As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a key role in overseeing the underwriting and financial performance of your team, supporting the oversight and trading decisions on larger and more complex cases, and engaging with brokers to build and support great trading relationships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the underwriting and financial performance of your team, ensuring alignment with Aviva's strategy
  • Support the oversight and trading decisions on larger and more complex cases
  • Engage with brokers to build and support great trading relationships
  • Perform data analysis and work to upskill your own development
  • Act as a referral point for the team, handling complex technical referrals and queries, and conferring with the branch underwriting manager, line leads, and solutions teams as needed
  • Support technical development in the team, undertaking audits and reviews, and evaluating license progressions
  • Day-to-day coaching and mentoring of team members
  • Support the implementation of changes within the team to policies and processes
  • Stay up-to-date with market and insurance trends and changes, and share this knowledge with the team to ensure they are informed
Requirements
  • Expert knowledge of Insurance and Commercial underwriting, with experience of property & liability
  • Excellent communication, listening, time management, and negotiating skills, along with excellent coaching and mentoring skills
  • Analysis of risks and ability to communicate and present effectively to brokers and/or customers
  • Familiarity with applying underwriting knowledge to effectively improve processes/procedures, while being responsible for own underwriting caseloads within a regulatory environment
  • Excellent business development/customer engagement skills to influence key contacts in the marketplace
