About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Team Leader to join our team at Cocklebury Sidings, Swindon. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our rolling stock, including Class 387 trains.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safe arrival and departure of all trains and rolling stock
  • Carry out safety-critical and non-safety-critical tasks in accordance with controlled technical instructions
  • Supervise GWR Maintenance Technicians and contractors, ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to complete their tasks
  • Monitor and maintain the necessary safe conditions for work activity, including fire safety and first aid
  • Prep and dispatch trains off depot, ensuring they are ready for service
  • Perform maintenance repairs to Class 387 trains, working closely with our maintenance control team
  • Communicate effectively with the signaller and maintenance control team to ensure smooth operations
  • Act as Fire Warden and First Aider, ensuring the safety of all personnel on site
  • Work away from home location, as required, to support our operations
  • Provide technical support to maintenance control, ensuring they have the necessary information to make informed decisions
  • Self-cover rosters due to the small team size, ensuring continuity of operations
  • Update occurrence logs and Sirenum rosters, ensuring accurate records of all incidents and events
  • Monitor train recording systems and update Reading TCD and West Ealing LMD, ensuring accurate records of train movements
Requirements
  • Pro-active and able to work as part of a team and on your own initiative
  • Able to plan your workload to meet tight constraints
  • Flexible to work weekends, bank holidays, and rotating shifts
  • Live within one hour of Cocklebury Sidings, Swindon
  • Technically minded and able to think on your feet
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of computer skills, including Excel and Word
  • NVQ L3 or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Full driving license
  • Flexibility to work a rotating shift pattern, including weekends and nights
  • Knowledge of Class 387 trains
About the Location

Cocklebury Sidings is a shared site with Network Rail's Jane Austin Training school, located just east of Swindon station. The depot consists of 4 sidings, which can accommodate 36 Class 387 vehicles. We are a short walk from Swindon Station and support the wider industry with specialist skills to support Freight operations.
