Job Title: Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to join their team. As a key member of the Acute Medicine department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of the service.

Clinical Responsibilities:
  1. Support and further develop initiatives within the Department of Acute Medicine.
  2. Respond to inpatient and outpatient referrals from other specialties.
  3. Provide direct clinical care on the Acute Medical Ward, ACU, and SDEC.
  4. Lead ward rounds and direct the management of patients.
  5. Assess patients and perform practical procedures while teaching other staff.
  6. Attend MDT meetings.
  7. Provide prompt advice for General Practitioners.
  8. Participate in educational and audit meetings.
  9. Meet CPD and revalidation requirements.
  10. Provide cover for Consultant colleagues during periods of leave.
  11. Support the Hospital's Clinical Governance Strategy.
  12. Contribute to all other aspects of the Directorate and trust affairs.
Medical Education & Teaching:
  1. Contribute to the weekly programme of educational activities, including foundation year and core medical training teaching programmes.
  2. Volunteer as an educational supervisor for doctors in training.
  3. Provide teaching and training to undergraduates and medical students both on the ward and in the outpatient department.
Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance:
  1. Take an active role in audit and governance projects to further the development of the service.
  2. Participate in the department's monthly governance meetings which provide the opportunity to share audits, journals, latest evidence, serious incident reviews, morbidity and mortality reviews, and other similar activities.
Continuing Professional Development:
  1. Participate in continuing professional development at local and national levels.
  2. Implement audit and research findings as appropriate in clinical practice.
  3. Prepare and participate in an annual appraisal in accordance with Trust policy.
  4. A willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional, or national levels.
Policy, Planning and Management:
  1. Support the Trust to deliver quality patient care.
  2. Contribute to the development of clinical and organisational protocols and guidelines.
  3. Assist in the development of the Annual Service Plan for the Directorate and Division and participate in the strategic planning of the service.
  4. Comply with all Trust policies.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced professional with excellent communication and leadership skills. They will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
