Early Years Kitchen Assistant

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Bright Horizons Chineham Park Day Nursery and Preschool. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, supporting the Chef in the preparation and cooking of nutritious meals for our children, and promoting healthy eating habits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the kitchen is a clean and safe environment, adhering to internal and external health and safety standards.
- Support the Chef in the preparation and cooking of age-appropriate meals, minimizing food waste and ensuring dietary requirements are met.
- In the absence of the Chef, take responsibility for the running of the kitchen, ensuring all dietary requirements are catered for and communicated to the team.
- Promote and ensure child welfare, protection, health and safety, and safeguarding.
- Support the Chef in managing kitchen budgets and stock levels, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a positive, happy, and safe environment.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a kitchen role, preferably in a childcare or education setting.
- Passion for nutrition and inspiring healthy eating habits in children.
- Food Safety CIEH L2 or above (or equivalent) certification.
- Sound knowledge of COSHH and managing dietary requirements, particularly food allergies.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, children, and parents.
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced environment.
