Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Oxford Brookes University Full time
Role Overview
Oxford Brookes University is seeking a highly skilled Disability Advisor to join their team. This fixed-term contract will cover a period of maternity leave and provide essential support to students with ongoing mental health conditions.

As a key member of the Mental Health Advice Team, you will engage with prospective and current students disclosing a mental health condition, providing initial assessment, advice, and guidance on entitlements, such as Disabled Students Allowances (DSAs). You will develop a working alliance with students using a solution-focused enabling approach, encouraging self-efficacy and helping them build confidence and strategies to manage challenges during their time at university.

You will liaise externally with the NHS, particularly GPs and secondary mental health services, over transfers of care and risk management. You will also link students to community-based and self-help resources as appropriate. Your role will involve responding to students at times of difficulty, illness, or crisis, exploring options, and working towards best hopes and outcomes.

In this challenging yet rewarding position, you will contribute to the University's Mental Health Charter and assist with improving mental health awareness and confidence across the institution.

About the Role
This 12-month fixed-term contract offers an excellent opportunity to work in a supportive team environment. As a Disability Advisor, you will have a degree or equivalent qualification or work experience. Substantial casework experience with clients having long-term mental health issues and challenges is essential. Proven experience of supporting people with diagnosed mental health conditions, involving effective management of complex and sensitive issues, is highly desirable.

Competitive Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum. Oxford Brookes University offers a generous Local Government pension scheme, up to 38 days holiday, cycle to work scheme, and access to various university facilities.
