Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Product Specialist to join our team at WHSmith. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with buying experience looking to develop their skills further.

This role involves driving commercial performance across all formats, making key decisions that impact sales and profitability.

  • Main Responsibilities:
  • Deliver and track against commercial KPIs, focusing on sales and profitability.
  • Curate an optimal assortment that meets commercial targets and exceeds customer expectations.
  • Develop value-creating initiatives to boost sales and profitability.
  • Lead category and trade planning, ensuring alignment with the business plan.
  • Negotiate with suppliers, maintaining clear strategies and improving terms.
  • Define pricing and promotional strategies for the category.
  • SOURCE and develop products in line with strategy.
  • Execute projects and trials within your area, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to the annual budget-building process.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Previous buying or commercial experience is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work resiliently and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation knowledge.
  • Strong numeracy skills and data analysis abilities.
  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
  • Collaborative team player with a resourceful mindset.

The estimated salary for this position is £40,000 - £60,000 per year, depending on experience.
