Specialist Pharmacist

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic pharmacist to join our pharmacy team and work within our clinical teams to ensure the safe and effective use of biologic medicines across RDUH.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will work with targeted clinical areas to maximise opportunity from the Trust investment in biologics and high-cost drugs. This will include coordinating and implementing biosimilar switches as well as reviewing patient treatment against criteria agreed with the clinical area.
Key Responsibilities- Provide specialist pharmacist advice on biologic medicines to clinical areas within the Trust.
- Lead and provide a high-quality and safe medicines optimisation program with respect to the use of biologics and other high-cost medicines across the Trust.
- Support clinical areas with targeted patient review, which will include brand switching and dose optimisation.
- Work as an independent prescriber managing a defined patient cohort, for a fixed period of time to achieve a particular outcome.
- Deliver high-quality patient care in line with legislation, national guidance, and specifications.
- Participate in the wider pharmacy service and its development in response to patient care needs.
- Contribute to the development of medicines management and optimisation throughout the patient care pathway.
- Help co-ordinate and validate the repeat prescribing of biologic medicines, including through homecare provision, and the counselling of patients.
The post holder will require the ability to work across both inpatient and outpatient settings to positively influence the supply and use of biologic medicines to ensure best outcomes and national and local commissioning criteria are met.
The post holder will provide assurance on formulary compliance for the relevant specialty area and address areas of poor compliance within the clinical service lines and build engagement for improvement.
An understanding of the use of prior approval systems Blueteq would be expected.
The role requires pharmacist lead medication reviews, engaging directly with patients as well as external stakeholders to optimise patient care.
The post holder will work closely with pharmacy homecare to validate prescriptions, reduce waste, and help facilitate brand changes where agreed with all stakeholders.
You will minimise medicines wastage by developing and implementing efficient working systems.
You must be highly self-motivated, able to demonstrate leadership skills, and have the ability to plan and work, both independently and as part of the wider healthcare team, to deliver excellent pharmaceutical care to our patients.
Requirement to participate in 7-day working to include late duties, bank holidays, and weekend working.
