Environmental, Health & Safety Lead: Key Responsibilities

Astute's Power Team is working with Marchwood Power Limited, which owns and operates the Marchwood Gas Fired Power Station in Southampton, Hampshire. This plant has the capacity to produce 900MW of power in a Combined Cycle configuration.

We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety Lead to join the management team on site at Marchwood. This role involves ensuring the site is compliant with all Environmental, Health & Safety matters, reporting directly to the General Manager. The successful candidate will play a positive role in promoting an excellent safety culture on site and managing the environmental management system.

Key aspects of this opportunity include:

  1. Maintaining and reviewing company-wide Environmental, Health & Safety policies, legislation, compliance issues, strategy, and procedures across the asset.
  2. Overseeing the administration of Management Systems, including the EHS Legal Register and Corporate policies.
  3. Managing EHS performance while promoting an excellent EHS culture.
  4. Monitoring site-wide compliance, conducting audits and inspections, and reporting to stakeholders, including the Board of Directors and external regulators.
  5. Collaborating with 3rd parties, such as the environment agency, Energy UK, specialist contractors, and independent advisors, on all EHS matters.
  6. Leading EHS investigations on incidents and risks.
  7. Providing site-wide coaching to enhance EHS understanding and skills.
  8. Developing risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  9. Conducting Root Cause Analysis and incident investigations.
  10. Developing and managing the asset's EHS budget.

The ideal candidate will have:

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • A degree in a relevant HSE field, with either working towards or having achieved chartership status.
  • A holder of NEBOSH in Occupational Safety & Health, as well as a professional membership such as TechIOSH or AIEMA.
  • A Lead Auditor certificate.
  • A Legionella Responsible Person certification.
Personal Qualities and Experience
  • At least five years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience, with a bias towards Health & Safety, in a heavy industry such as Process Plant, Refinery, Petrochemical, Power Station, or similar.
  • Advantageous experience working with gas & steam plant, such as Turbines, Boilers, and Power Generation equipment.
