Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Telecommunications Engineer to join our team at the State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the Virginia Statewide Agencies Radio System (STARS), a P25 trunked radio system that includes an integrated voice and data land mobile radio (LMR) network with a microwave network backbone.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and maintain spectrum authorization for the STARS system
  • Perform radio frequency engineering using sustainable engineering practices compliant with FCC rules and regulations
  • Coordinate radio frequency applications and serve as the Virginia Chapter of the Association of Public-Safety Officials International (APCO) Radio Frequency Coordinator
  • Resolve radio frequency interference issues
  • Provide development and sustaining engineering support
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in electrical engineering theory as applied to wireless communication systems and technology
  • Ability to interpret technical materials and diagrams, develop technical solutions to complex problems, and communicate complex project solutions effectively in English
  • FCC General Radio Operator License (GROL) required within 6 months of employment
  • High school graduate or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience coordinating radio frequency applications in accordance with 47 CFR and APCO policies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Professional suite and RF modeling
