About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Palliative Medicine Consultant to join our team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to patients with complex needs, working closely with colleagues across the hospital and community.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the Gastroenterology service, ensuring high-quality care and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Forge strong links between Gastroenterology and Acute Medicine, promoting collaboration and best practice.
  • Liaise with relevant hospital departments, local General Practitioners, Nurses, and Paramedical Staff to develop working policies and improve patient care.
  • Develop innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high-quality care and community management where appropriate.
  • Develop the use of nurse practitioners and paramedical staff in the hospital and community.
  • Maintain close links with Gastroenterology colleagues across the trust.
  • Provide a 7-day service with colleagues as resources allow.
  • Teach and train undergraduates and postgraduates, promoting education and professional development.
  • Contribute to quality assurance and individual practice, ensuring excellence in patient care.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will possess:

  • MRCP or equivalent qualification.
  • Eligibility to be on the specialist register for Gastroenterology and Medicine.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Gastro Intestinal and common medical conditions.
  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching and training.
  • Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects.

Desirable Criteria

  • Completion of Higher Medical or Gastroenterology Degree or equivalent.
  • Advanced Endoscopy skills.
  • Attendance at a recognised management course.
  • Academic achievements or evidence of familiarity with research methods.
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision.
  • Formal qualification in teaching or education.
