Job Description

The Global Director of Biological Mass Spectrometry at GSK will play a pivotal role in advancing our small molecule drug discovery initiatives. This role involves spearheading innovative approaches and driving the future of mass spectrometry in the pharmaceutical industry.

This position will lead a dynamic team of scientists focused on identifying small molecule drug candidates and understanding their biological impact through cutting-edge mass spectrometry technologies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mass spectrometry and a proven track record of leading teams in scientific research or drug discovery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead and inspire a global team in the innovative application of mass spectrometry technologies.
  • Strategy Development: Develop and implement forward-thinking mass spectrometry strategies for various modalities.
  • Foster Innovation: Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the organization.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with teams in Research Technologies and Therapeutic Areas to design experiments, analyze data, and provide critical insights for drug discovery programs.
  • Technical Expertise: Continuously monitor the latest advancements in mass spectrometry to ensure GSK remains at the forefront of scientific discovery.
  • Resource Management: Manage budgets, resources, and timelines efficiently to maximize the team's impact.
  • Team Development: Build and nurture a high-performing team, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Encourage Excellence: Cultivate an environment that encourages creativity and scientific excellence.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., biochemistry, cell biology, analytical chemistry) with a focus on mass spectrometry or Bachelors or master's with 10+ Yrs of relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, applying mass spectrometry to biochemistry and cell biology, including direct portfolio support and capability development.
  • Experience with leading and managing a team in scientific research or drug discovery.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in mass spectrometry technologies, including omics platforms and mass spectrometry-based screening and profiling.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of small molecule drug discovery processes and the role of mass spectrometry.
  • Strong understanding of cell biology, biochemistry, and biophysics in small molecule drug discovery.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and presenting findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
