Job Overview

The successful candidate will have expert software engineering skills and expertise in implementing mathematical methods and algorithms. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating, and improving the latest parallel algorithms for solving large non-linear hyperbolic PDE systems, including their discretization and linearization, as well as the solution of related linear systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and implement new numerical solvers and techniques to enhance our existing solution strategies.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the performance of our numerical solutions, ensuring they meet the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Provide accurate and effective written documentation to facilitate collaboration with internal engineering teams.
  • Communicate complex ideas and testing results effectively, both orally and in writing, to ensure seamless project execution.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • MSc (with relevant experience) or a degree in Computational Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++, software design principles, and data structures.
  • Experience with parallel programming, particularly with pthreads, OpenMP, and MPI.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Strong mathematical fundamentals, including linear algebra and numerical methods.
  • Experience in discretizing and solving hyperbolic PDE systems and with linear solvers to support this.
  • A good understanding of mathematical properties and limitations of techniques like TR, BDF, Runge Kutta, and related time discretization techniques.
  • A good understanding of mathematical properties and limitations of spatial discretization techniques like finite volume, finite difference, finite element, especially in the context of complex meshes and very large dynamic ranges of solution variables.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills, with a logical approach to problem-solving, good time management, and task prioritization skills.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary of £80,000 - £110,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, financial, and other benefits. Additionally, equity, bonuses, commission, or other forms of compensation may also be provided as part of a total compensation package.
