English Graduate Teaching Assistant Role

We are seeking an English Graduate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a secondary school in Levenshulme. This is a full-time position that starts in October and will continue until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent based on performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in English across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them understand core concepts in reading, writing, and literature.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group intervention sessions to students who require additional support with their English studies.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in preparing lesson materials, leading small group discussions, and delivering engaging activities.
  • Help students improve their literacy skills, including comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and essay-writing techniques.
  • Support students with exam preparation and coursework, guiding them on study techniques and revising key topics.
  • Encourage students to take an active interest in reading and literature, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Provide feedback on student progress to teachers and contribute to planning differentiated learning strategies.
  • Assist with classroom management and help maintain a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Develop strong relationships with students, helping to build their confidence and enthusiasm for English.
  • Support the English department with extracurricular activities such as book clubs or literacy events.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A degree in English Literature, English Language, or a related field is essential.
  • A passion for English and education, with a desire to support students in reaching their academic potential.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Prior experience working with young people in an educational or tutoring capacity is advantageous, but not essential.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with the ability to adapt to different classroom needs.
  • A commitment to fostering a positive learning environment and encouraging student progress.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to promoting the welfare of young people.
