Overseas Visitors Officer

The Overseas Visitors Officer plays a critical role in ensuring that maximum overseas visitor income is recovered for the Trust through a combination of direct patient contact, daily reports, and collaboration with other staff within the Trust. This involves determining whether patients suspected of not being eligible for free NHS care are liable and establishing the cost of planned treatment. The post holder will interview patients to establish eligibility according to Department of Health Guidance, collate details on treatment planned or provided, generate invoice requests, and secure payment when possible in advance.
Main Duties- Implement NHS Charging Regulations and procedures related to income, ensuring they develop in line with current and new legislation.
- Provide advice to staff and patients on NHS charging regulations and procedures.
- Identify overseas visitors not eligible for NHS treatment and maximize overseas patients' income.
- Ensure accurate recording, costing, and billing of activity in a timely manner.
- Interact with patients and their families in a busy office, dealing with complex and sensitive issues, and making appropriate judgments under minimal supervision.
The Overseas Visitors Officer will work closely with other staff and patients to establish entitlement to free NHS care, providing advice and support as needed. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with others, ensuring clear, timely, and accurate exchange of information within the boundaries of confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities- Interview, assess, and identify whether a patient's claim for free NHS treatment is valid based on the latest guidance.
- Manage cases comprehensively, ensuring funds are recovered in a timely manner, and arrange for undertaking to pay forms to be completed and/or full payment collection whenever practical.
- Liaise with outside agencies, such as Border Control and the Department of Health.
- Participate in training staff throughout the Trust, ensuring training is available to all departments as required.
- Plan and provide awareness training regarding overseas patients and visitors issues, facilitating and coordinating regular awareness presentations for all levels of staff.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to use different styles of communication at all levels. They will also have the ability to deliver training, manage their own time, and work unsupervised. A substantial experience of administration procedures, receiving, collating, and updating numerous documents and logs, and working in a programme/project environment is essential.
