The Reading Specialist at Montgomery County Public Schools plays a vital role in supporting students as they construct meaning in reading. Reporting to the principal, this specialist provides services to administrators, counselors, teachers, and parents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose the strengths and needs of individual students and/or groups of students using both informal and standardized measures.
  • Teach basic and developmental reading to students.
  • Provide in-school training in reading and language arts to school staff.
  • Serve as a schoolwide resource for reading-related issues.
  • Work effectively with the principal, staff, and parents to initiate and provide reading services consistent with the needs of all students.

Requirements:

To be successful in this position, you will need:

  • A Master's degree or equivalent post-baccalaureate graduate credits in reading.
  • Advanced Professional Certificate.
  • Three years of teaching and/or clinical experience, preferably at the level of assignment.
  • Eligibility for Maryland reading specialist certification.
  • Experience in administering, analyzing, and interpreting standardized tests.

Salary Information:

This full-time position comes with a competitive salary of $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
