About the Role:
The Reading Specialist at Montgomery County Public Schools plays a vital role in supporting students as they construct meaning in reading. Reporting to the principal, this specialist provides services to administrators, counselors, teachers, and parents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose the strengths and needs of individual students and/or groups of students using both informal and standardized measures.
- Teach basic and developmental reading to students.
- Provide in-school training in reading and language arts to school staff.
- Serve as a schoolwide resource for reading-related issues.
- Work effectively with the principal, staff, and parents to initiate and provide reading services consistent with the needs of all students.
Requirements:
To be successful in this position, you will need:
- A Master's degree or equivalent post-baccalaureate graduate credits in reading.
- Advanced Professional Certificate.
- Three years of teaching and/or clinical experience, preferably at the level of assignment.
- Eligibility for Maryland reading specialist certification.
- Experience in administering, analyzing, and interpreting standardized tests.
Salary Information:
This full-time position comes with a competitive salary of $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
