Job Title: Health and Safety Advisor

Job Summary:

The John Innes Centre is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to join their team. The successful candidate will provide health and safety support to the research institutes, reviewing and updating health and safety documentation, and providing advice and guidance on health and safety matters.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Review and update health and safety documentation, including risk assessments and safe working procedures.
  • Provide advice and guidance on health and safety matters, including biological and chemical safety.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and provide high-standard reports.
  • Support the Head of Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality Assurance with the daily administrative running of the occupational health clinics.
  • Participate in laboratory audits and inspections.
  • Contribute to safety improvement projects on site.
  • Provide health and safety support to the Head of HSEQA in relation to NGI projects.
  • Respond to emergency incidents when required.

Requirements:

  • Health and Safety Certificate or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree in biology or biochemistry.
  • Biological Safety Qualification.
  • Good knowledge and experience of working safely with hazardous materials in laboratory environments.
  • Ability to prepare and review risk assessments, method statements, and standard operating procedures.
  • Good level of proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
