Job Description

Job Title: Production Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Production Manager to oversee the production process, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of high-quality products to our customers. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing a team of production staff, with a strong focus on process improvement and quality control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the production process, coordinating production plans and allocating resources as needed.
  • Own process efficiency, driving improvements and delegating tasks to team leaders and their teams.
  • Follow the daily plan and adapt as required to meet customer requirements.
  • Build and develop the production team, ensuring staff are adequately trained and held accountable to meet performance criteria.
  • Liaise with production planner and evening shift leader to ensure smooth operations.
  • Communicate issues and handover information to relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in daily operations meetings and assembly meetings to discuss progress and address concerns.
  • Conduct inductions and probation reviews for new staff, and appraise existing team members annually.
  • Monitor and manage absences, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  • Manage clocking and payroll for production staff.
  • Carry out disciplinary hearings as required.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety policies, risk assessments, and safe work practices.
  • Encourage safe work practices and use of behavioral observations.
  • Manage staff PPE adherence, including company uniform.
  • Create quality alerts to focus operatives on issues affecting customers.
  • Produce machine figures on a weekly basis and communicate performance to team leaders.

Requirements:

  • Previous management experience in a manufacturing facility, with a large team.
  • Use of IT systems, including MS Office and MRP/Production Planning package.
  • Working with heavy manufacturing machinery.
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Positive mindset and approachable demeanor.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to create a plan for production.
  • KPI reporting and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with corrugated materials.
  • H&S qualification (IOSH).
  • Counterbalance Forklift License.
  • First aid at work qualification.
  • Lean implementation (Six sigma or similar lean qualification).
  • JIT/Kanban production - batch methods.
  • Leadership/Management qualification (ILM, CMI or similar).
