About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional individual to lead our new independent education inspectorate, His Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIE). As His Majesty's Chief Inspector of Education in Scotland, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Scottish education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive inspection plan that drives improvement in Scottish education, focusing on excellence and equity.
  • Provide independent professional advice to the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Scottish Ministers, and Scottish Government officials, based on evidence-based insights and analysis of inspection data.
  • Lead the transformation of the inspection approach, ensuring it supports and drives improvement in Scottish education, and create a confident, respected, and influential public body.
  • Manage the operating budgets and resources of HMIE, ensuring financial considerations and Scottish Government guidance are taken into account.

Requirements

  • A senior education professional with a proven track record of leading and delivering improvements in excellence and equity, with experience of operating successfully at board or senior level.
  • Strong political acuity, analytical skills, and ability to provide advice that drives improvement, through challenge and collaborative leadership at a system level.
  • Ability to develop and maintain wide networks, breaking down barriers to deliver outcomes, and embedding an inclusive, learning culture.
  • Strong understanding of yourself as a leader, personal resilience, and ability to role model inclusive leadership.
