English Specialist Teaching Assistant Role

We are seeking a passionate English Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our team at a secondary school in Wilmslow. This is a full-time position starting in October, with the possibility of the role being made permanent depending on performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students who may be struggling with English, helping them to develop key skills in reading, writing, and comprehension.
  • Assist the classroom teacher with lesson preparation, delivery, and ensuring all students remain engaged and challenged.
  • Support students with GCSE English exam preparation, offering targeted interventions and revision sessions to improve their performance.
  • Help to create differentiated resources that cater to students with varying abilities and learning needs.
  • Collaborate with the English department to identify students needing additional support and tailor interventions to address individual needs.
  • Track and report on student progress, working with the teacher to adapt teaching strategies to suit the class or individual pupils.
  • Assist in maintaining a positive learning environment, encouraging students to develop a love for reading and literature.
  • Support classroom management to ensure students remain focused and productive during lessons.
  • Provide pastoral support to students, helping them build confidence and overcome any challenges in their English studies.
  • Engage in school-wide literacy initiatives and extra-curricular activities related to English, including book clubs, writing workshops, and more.
Requirements:
  • A strong background in English, ideally with a degree or equivalent qualification in English or a related subject.
  • A passion for the English language and literature, with the ability to inspire students and encourage them to improve their literacy skills.
  • Previous experience working with young people, ideally in an educational setting or tutoring role.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to simplify complex ideas and concepts to help students understand and engage with the subject.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A keen interest in pursuing a career in education or teaching is highly desirable.
