We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Microbiologist to join our team at Polytec Personnel Ltd based near Saffron Walden.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Microbiology or a related field and be able to work independently. They should also have a strong understanding of the principles of microbiology and be able to apply this knowledge in a practical setting.

This role involves designing, executing and documenting experimental activities to high standards, with a focus on the development of quality control assays and the characterisation of anaerobic bacteria.

Job Description:
  1. Design, execute and document QPCR assays to quantify bacteria in samples from clinical trials.
  2. Develop and optimise quality control assays for batch release.
  3. Develop microbiological and molecular assays to characterise novel bacterial isolates and develop hypotheses on their mechanisms of action.
  4. Characterise anaerobic bacteria for development as medicinal products into live bacterial therapeutics in support of regulatory submissions.
  5. Provide guidance to junior members of staff.
Requirements:
  1. PhD in Microbiology or a related discipline/or equivalent experience.
  2. Strong understanding of microbiological principles.
  3. Ability to work independently.
  4. Ability to design, execute and document experimental activities to high standards.
  5. Sound understanding of the business perspective when making commercial decisions.
