Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team at the King's College London, developing an innovative open-source R package to calculate sample sizes for prediction modelling. The successful candidate will play a central role in all stages of package development, including technical development, user engagement, comprehensive documentation, and scientific publications.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop new features to incorporate machine learning algorithms, such as random forests and gradient-boosted trees, as well as longitudinal models like joint models and landmarking.
  • Implement surrogate modelling approaches, including Gaussian process models, and validate the software's functionality through benchmarking studies.

The Department of Biostatistics and Health Informatics is a major force in developing quantitative methodology as applied to mental health research. Our research spans a range of approaches, including prediction modelling, clinical trials, causal inference, and the application of large language models to unstructured medical records.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time (35 hours per week) fixed-term contract for 16 months. The salary is approximately £44,000 per annum, inclusive of London Weighting Allowance. We offer a competitive benefits package, including access to training and development opportunities.

A PhD in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience, is essential. Strong proficiency in R programming, experience with software version control tools, and high-performance computing environments are also required.
