Fire Safety Role at AtkinsRéalis/CANDU Energy

The department of Safety Engineering at AtkinsRéalis/CANDU Energy is engaged in fire assessments in support of new CANDU Nuclear Power Plants and the operation and safety of existing domestic and international CANDU plants. The senior fire safety analyst will work together with other senior and junior staff to develop and apply advanced analysis methodologies to address client/project concerns regarding safety and licensing for plant support, refurbishment and new build. These include issues related to fire hazard assessment (FHA), fire probabilistic safety assessment (PSA), fire safe shutdown analysis (FSSA) or fire code compliance review (CCR).

Your role in our team:

  • Work within the nuclear sector or energy facilities.
  • Lead multiple engineering projects from inception through to delivery in support of fire safety standards and codes.
  • Support the delivery of project work within time and cost budgets.
  • Developing fire engineering solutions on projects and ensuring the fire engineering strategy delivered.
  • Assess fire related risks in projects and work collaboratively to mitigate where possible.
  • Review fire protection design for code compliance review as per applicable codes and standards.
  • Prepare proposals, take part in analysis and design team meetings, and liaise with client representatives as required.
  • Engineering degree, preferably fire engineering or alternatively a post graduate qualification in fire engineering with a minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Demonstrate a strong record of successfully delivering fire safety projects - experience in nuclear sector is strongly considered.
  • Strong experience working with a range of building codes and fire standards including but not limited to NBCC, NFCC, CSA N293, CSA N393, NFPA 101, NFPA 72, NFPA 10, NFPA 13, NFPA 25, and NFPA 80.
  • Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting, to meet project goals.
  • A flexible approach to the working environment.
  • Willingness to travel will be a positive advantage.
  • Strong Fire modelling experience using CFAST. Knowledge of fire modeling using FDS will be beneficial.
  • Ability to collate information and have a clear and structured approach to report writing.
