About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Internal Medicine Trainee to join our team at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. As an Internal Medicine Trainee, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our medical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in outpatient clinics, working closely with consultants and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients with diabetes and endocrinology conditions.
  • Assist in the management of inpatients, including rotating in holding the specialty referral bleep to answer referrals from hospitals and primary care.
  • Work closely with diabetes nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide seamless care to patients.
  • Participate in ward cover, working in 1-week blocks to support the ward team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Requirements
  • Hold a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and be eligible for full registration with the GMC.
  • Have MRCP (UK) at the time of application.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Meet professional health requirements, in line with GMC standards and Good Medical Practice.
  • Have evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take during core training or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the basics of managing acute medical conditions, including emergencies, inpatients, and outpatients.
  • Have appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems.
  • Be proficient in a range of medical procedures, as defined by the core curriculum, as an indication of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Able to work without direct supervision where appropriate, prioritize clinical need, maximize safety, and minimize risk.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Evidence of skills in the management of acute medical emergencies.
  • Evidence of skills in the management of patients not requiring hospital admission.
  • Evidence of CT3 level procedural skills relevant to medical patients, including central venous cannulation, chest drain insertion, joint aspiration, DC cardioversion, and abdominal paracentesis.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and clinical quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-informed practice.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance.
  • Evidence of teaching experience and/or training in teaching.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of research methodology.
  • Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements, and involvement in a formal research project.
  • Evidence of relevant academic publications.
  • Evidence of involvement in a quality improvement project, formal research project, or other activity that focuses on patient safety and clinical improvement.
  • Evidence of a portfolio of quality improvement projects, including completed 'Plan Do Study Act' cycles, and evidence of learning of the principles of change management.
  • Evidence of exceptional achievement in medicine.
  • Evidence of involvement in teaching students, postgraduates, and other professionals.
  • Evidence of participation in a teaching course.
