About the Role

We are seeking to recruit four Internal Medicine Trainees to fill current IMT3 vacancies to start as soon as possible for 6 months. Although this is not an approved training post, the successful candidate will be allocated an educational supervisor and will be supported to complete work-based assessment and to sign off the curriculum competencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Outpatient Clinics: The IMT3 will be doing 3-4 clinics a week under close consultant supervision. The aim of the clinics is to introduce the trainee to different aspects of the specialty. The clinics will rotate between General Diabetes, Young adults Diabetes Clinic and General endocrine with the opportunity to do some of the more specialised clinics for example Diabetes Pump, Antenatal Diabetes, Bariatrics and radioactive iodine.
  • Inpatients: Along with the specialty trainee and the associate specialist, the Dr will rotate in holding the specialty referral bleep to answer for referrals from the hospitals and urgent referrals for advice from primary care. The person taking the referral will be expected to discuss all referrals with the consultant on ward cover. They will also work closely with the diabetes nurses.
  • The IMT3 will be on the rota for Castle ward cover. IMT3 and ST4-7 from Rheumatology and Rheumatology participate in the ward cover rota. The ward is covered in 1 week blocks during which the trainee is expected to be working and supporting the ward team from

The hospital provides services on a single site for all the major specialities including Accident and Emergency, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Genitourinary Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Maxillo-Facial surgery, paediatrics (including a NICU), general medicine (including all major medical specialities including CCU, Renal Unit, ITU and gastroenterology), radiotherapy and oncology, and all the general surgical specialities.

Requirements
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCP (UK) at time of application
  • Eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at the advertised post start date
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Applicants must meet professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice)
  • Be able to provide complete details of their employment history
  • Have evidence that their career progression is consistent with their personal circumstances
  • Have evidence that their present level of achievement and performance is commensurate with the totality of their period of training
  • Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take during core training or equivalent
  • Experience at CT/ST 1/2 level of managing patients with severe acute medical disease by the time of commencement of ST3 training
  • Demonstrates awareness of the basics of managing acute medical conditions, including emergencies, inpatients and outpatients
  • Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
  • Proficiency in a range of medical procedures (as defined by the core curriculum) as an indication of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Able to work without direct supervision where appropriate
  • Able to prioritise clinical need
  • Able to maximise safety and minimise risk
