Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our Council as an Independent Member, bringing strategic governance expertise and a commitment to excellence in public and global health research.

About the Role:
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world's leading public health universities, dedicated to improving health and health equity in the UK and worldwide. As an Independent Member of our Council, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of LSHTM, ensuring effective governance and oversight, and contributing to the development of policies and practices that promote health and well-being globally.

Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibilities will include participating in Council meetings, attending committee sessions, and engaging with other council members, students, and academic staff to drive forward our mission. You will also be expected to contribute to the development of strategic plans, monitor progress, and provide guidance on matters related to university governance.

Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you should have proven leadership skills, gained through professional or volunteer experience, preferably in a senior management or director-level position. Strong personal commitment to LSHTM's mission and objectives, along with excellent collaborative skills, are essential. You should also possess a deep understanding of the complexity of university governance and be able to navigate the strategic, political, and economic context in which LSHTM operates. Tact, diplomacy, and strong networking capabilities are also highly valued.
