UCB is seeking a talented professional to fill the position of Internal Controls Manager, a key role in our Group Accounting, Tax and Treasury team. This position is based at our HQ in Brussels, Belgium or our offices in Slough, UK or Monheim, Germany.

The Role

The Global Internal Control function operates independently, supporting operations/line management in building and maintaining efficient and effective internal control processes. We are expanding our scope to non-financial reporting, focusing on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strengthening the internal control environment through monitoring and collaboration with operations/line management
  2. Leveraging data analytics to identify trends, anomalies, and act as a risk-control challenger
  3. Lead process improvement initiatives related to internal control
  4. Reports to Head of Internal Controls and business stakeholders on internal control progress

What You'll Do

  1. Compliance monitoring and control documentation management, including substantive testing of controls and maintenance of control frameworks for various financial and non-financial processes
  2. Monitoring report and dashboard creation, as well as managing stakeholder communications through reports, dashboards, and meetings
  3. Conducting risk assessments and identifying mitigation strategies, utilizing data analytics to detect trends, anomalies, and potential control weaknesses
  4. Leading internal control projects, focusing on process improvement, root cause analysis, and risk assessment
  5. Providing training and education on risk awareness, fostering a consistent internal control environment across the organization
  6. Overseeing the documentation and maintenance of tools used for control testing and ensuring the regular review of controls

Required Skills and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. Minimum 5 years in a global organization, preferably in the pharma/biopharma sector, with 3-4 years of experience in audit, internal controls, and compliance
  3. Strong knowledge of risk management, auditing principles, internal control standards like COSO, and financial processes including S2P, O2C, R2R, as well as associated risks and controls
  4. Familiarity with SAP modules, outsourced operations, and their respective risks/controls, along with expertise in dashboarding, data visualization, and reporting tools
  5. Management and leadership skills, demonstrating independence, adaptability, analytical thinking, and a proactive approach to learning and embracing new methodologies
  6. Ability to manage ambiguity, maintain stakeholder relationships, and communicate complex concepts effectively; strong presentation and project management skills
  7. A self-motivated team player with excellent negotiation skills and the ability to influence others in a global setting
