About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Biomedical Scientist Team Manager to join our dynamic Microbiology team at SYNLAB UK & Ireland. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing clinical analytical services to patients and service users, while also managing day-to-day staffing and ensuring safe service delivery.

Main Responsibilities
  • Service Delivery: Provide clinical analytical services for patients and service users, ensuring high-quality results and timely delivery.
  • Staff Management: Manage day-to-day staffing in the area of responsibility, ensuring safe service delivery and maintenance of turnaround times (TATs).
  • Service Development: Be involved in and responsible for service developments, including the implementation of new technologies and processes.
  • Training and Competency: Supervise and ensure training and competency assessment of staff in the area of responsibility.
  • Appraisal and Recruitment: Carry out appraisal of staff and participate in and be responsible for recruitment of staff.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Be responsible for QC and QA in the area of responsibility, ensuring non-conformances are investigated, documented, and changes to practice identified where necessary.
  • Audit and Reporting: Participate in and undertake audit, and be responsible for reporting, investigating, and monitoring errors and incidents as per policies.
  • Documentation and Oversight: Be responsible for writing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the area of responsibility, and have oversight of reports released from the area of responsibility.
  • Risk and COSHH Assessments: Be responsible for risk and COSHH assessments in the area of responsibility.
  • Departmental Meetings: Attend and chair departmental meetings as required.
  • Deputising: Deputise for the Principal BMS as required.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: HCPC registered and Specialist portfolio or equivalent in Microbiology.
  • Management Qualification: Management qualification to ILM level 3 or relevant experience.
  • Education and Experience: MSc / FIBMS (by examination) / IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma and is currently in possession of Fellowship Class of the IBMS or equivalent experience.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Able to work across 3 different sites in a 24-7 work environment if required, and demonstrate a good knowledge and experience of industry standard laboratory information management systems and computer applications.
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of Microbiological manual and automated techniques and practices, and working knowledge of Molecular biology techniques and platforms.
