Job Title: Shunter

At Fowler Welch, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Shunter to join our team. As a Shunter, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the timely movement of trailers, on and off loading bays, and delivering shunt loads from one location to another, in line with our company standards and operational requirements.

Main Responsibilities:
  • To safely and efficiently place trailers in the required areas, as instructed.
  • To maintain effective communication with colleagues and other departments using two-way radios.
  • To conduct regular safety checks, as designated by the company, to ensure a safe working environment.
  • To report any defects, accidents, or incidents to the relevant authorities as soon as they are identified.
  • To ensure that refrigerated trailers are set at the correct temperature, in line with loaded product temperature requirements.
  • To maintain adequate fuel levels in fridge diesel tanks at all times.
  • To demonstrate professionalism and courtesy when interacting with colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • To report any breaches in speed limits by drivers and subcontractors to the transport department.
  • To maintain the cleanliness and organization of vehicle parking areas and report any issues to the site services team.
  • To adhere to company standards of hygiene and housekeeping in your areas of work.
  • To work in line with Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Desirable: Working with and driving LGV's.
  • Previous shunting experience.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamworking and communication skills.
  • Ability to work to challenging deadlines in a pressurized environment.
  • Self-discipline and motivation.
