Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Political Reporter to join our team at BBC Oxford. As a key member of our newsroom, you will be responsible for producing high-quality content for radio, online, and television audiences.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

As a Political Reporter, you will be expected to:

  • Produce engaging and informative content on local and national politics, including news stories, features, and analysis.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of local and national politics, including key issues, policies, and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the News Editor and other team members to plan and deliver high-quality content.
  • Conduct interviews with key figures, including politicians, councilors, and other stakeholders.
  • Write and edit content for radio, online, and television audiences.
  • Develop and maintain a strong social media presence, including Twitter and other platforms.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong understanding of local and national politics, including key issues, policies, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content for a variety of audiences.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Experience in a similar role, with a strong track record of producing high-quality content.
  • A strong understanding of the BBC's editorial guidelines and values.
