Psychiatric Services Manager

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Consultant Psychiatrist to lead our team across our female-only Psychiatric Intensive Care Units and male and female acute wards. This role is ideal for a dynamic and inspiring leader who can foster a professional, open culture that empowers our clinical staff to provide exceptional, compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities
As the Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for providing psychiatric care to clients within your service area, taking overall responsibility for a defined caseload of patients. You will also work collaboratively with a multi-professional management team to ensure that our care meets the highest regulatory standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive treatment service that delivers a high-quality response to those suffering from a range of mental health problems based on quality-assured evidence-based practice.
- Provide advice regarding the psychiatric care of clients within your service area.
- Oversee the performance of Consultant Psychiatrists, ensuring that systems are in place to support appraisal and revalidation, and identify, investigate, and escalate concerns about Psychiatrists' conduct or performance.
- Maintain effective professional leadership, providing clinical supervision and mentorship to other Consultant Psychiatrists.
- Represent the business externally at local, regional, and national levels, raising the profile of the business and establishing working relationships with commissioners, community teams, and other key partners.
- Participate in an out-of-hours rota with other Consultant Psychiatrists and ensure adequate consultant cover across the hospital as required.
- Participate in quality enhancement and service evaluation projects and undertake relevant research to improve service delivery.
- Lead the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for the hospital and foster a culture of learning.
- Provide input and advice on relevant initiatives that require a medical perspective, such as the implementation of recommendations from NICE, National Inquiries, and External Investigations.
Requirements
- Approved Clinician status
- A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and in good CPD standing
- Current registration with the GMC
- At least five years' experience in an in-patient setting
- Experience of working in a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
- Experience of working in Acute Services (Male or Female)
- Ability to take independent clinical decisions and demonstrate clinical leadership
- Knowledge and skills in evidence-based practice, MHA, and MCA
- Effective communication skills – verbal and written
- Up-to-date knowledge of current practices in in-patient Psychiatry
- Able to organise oneself and prioritise clinical need
- Evidence of participation in audit
