About the Role

We are seeking an experienced retail professional to join our team as an Assistant General Manager at our prestigious garden centre in East Sussex. As a key member of our management team, you will play a vital role in driving sales growth, improving customer satisfaction, and leading a dynamic team of retail professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the garden centre, ensuring seamless customer service and a high level of store presentation.
  • Provide expert gardening advice and guidance to customers, promoting our products and services.
  • Supervise and motivate a team of retail professionals, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Oversee inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and stock control, to ensure optimal stock levels and minimize waste.
  • Ensure the garden centre is well-maintained, visually appealing, and safe for customers and staff, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Assist in planning and executing promotional activities and events, driving sales and customer engagement.
  • Monitor sales performance and contribute to achieving financial targets, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly and effectively, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the Garden Centre Manager to implement business strategies and improvements, driving growth and profitability.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a retail or garden centre environment, with a strong track record of sales growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to provide expert gardening advice and guidance.
  • Leadership abilities, with experience in supervising and motivating a team of retail professionals.
  • Good organisational and multitasking skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle physical tasks.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and point of sale (POS) software, with a strong understanding of inventory management and stock control.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays, with a willingness to work varied shifts and hours.
  • Knowledge of plants and horticulture is preferred but not mandatory.
