About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Acute Inpatient Service at Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality mental health care to patients in our inpatient setting.

Main Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Clinical Expertise
    • Provide daily ward reviews and medical care to patients, Monday to Friday.
    • Supervise the medical team and provide visible and clear leadership at ward level.
    • Act as Responsible Clinician for detained inpatients and have a medical legal role.
  • Collaboration and Coordination
    • Work with Intensive teams to provide dedicated lead Consultant input to acute care service coordination.
    • Participate in S12 office-hours rota to cover Place of Safety.
  • Service Development and Improvement
    • Contribute to the development of acute care services in line with best practice and nationally accredited standards.
    • Participate in acute care pathways meetings to identify services users who require access to inpatient services.
  • Performance Monitoring and Evaluation
    • Understand and participate in the maintenance, monitoring, and evaluation of service-specific performance indicators and targets.

Person Specification

We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Essential Qualifications
    • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Desirable Qualifications
    • Relevant Higher Degree, e.g. MD, PhD, MSc, or other additional clinical qualifications.
    • MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Eligibility
    • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
    • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of gaining CCT.
    • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
    • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Desirable Experience
    • CCT in General Adult Psychiatry.
