Patient Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Patient Support Specialist to join our Oncology team at the Division of Surgery – BHRUT NHS. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care and support to patients living with cancer diagnoses.
Job SummaryThe ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years' experience working in a healthcare setting, with a strong understanding of relevant cancer treatments, interventions, and terminology. You will be responsible for managing priorities under pressure, meeting service needs, and adhering to strict deadlines. Your excellent communication skills and ability to facilitate groups will enable you to provide holistic support and guidance to patients and their families.
Main Responsibilities- Provide personalized care and support to patients living with cancer diagnoses, including needs assessments, care planning, and health and wellbeing information.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care and ensure seamless transitions between services.
- Facilitate group sessions and workshops to educate patients and their families on cancer-related topics, promoting empowerment and informed decision-making.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to the development of innovative solutions to improve patient outcomes and experiences.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
- A minimum of two years' experience working in a healthcare setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- A strong understanding of relevant cancer treatments, interventions, and terminology.
- Experience of facilitating groups and educating patients on cancer-related topics.
- NVQ 2/3 in Health or Social Care or equivalent experience (desirable).
- Basic communications training (e.g., Sage and Thyme) (desirable).
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to delivering exceptional patient care. The salary for this role is approximately £22,000-£25,000 per annum, depending on experience. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a range of benefits, including:
