Clinical Coding Team Leader Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Coding Department at a leading NHS Trust for a highly motivated individual to take on a leadership role.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Clinical Coder to gain valuable experience in a supervisory position while still retaining their own coding workload. The role will involve mentoring and training of new coders, day-to-day supervision of the coding team, and ensuring all monthly coding deadlines are met.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality coded data, training and mentoring clinical coders, and conducting clinical coding audits. They will also be expected to maintain their own high level of coding accuracy and contribute to the development of the coding team.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the Clinical Coding Team to ensure all agreed national and local timescales are met.
  • Provide high-quality and timely coded data.
  • Train and mentor clinical coders, including checking, validating, and informal auditing.

Person Specification:

  • Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC) - equivalent to degree level.
  • Post-graduate management qualification or relevant recent managerial/supervisory experience.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge/skills and experience as a Clinical Coder.
  • Evidence of continued professional development and attendance of formal clinical coding specialty workshops.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Well-developed planning and organizational skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and use of practical clinical coding using ICD and OPCS classifications.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under constant pressure.

Experience:

  • Experience in training and mentoring clinical coders to a high level.
  • Experience of working with hospital-based computer systems.
  • Experience of conducting clinical coding audits.
