Job Overview:

Clinical Coders are essential to the smooth operation of healthcare services, ensuring that accurate and consistent data is recorded and used for comparative and planning purposes. This role requires a strong understanding of ICD-10 and OPCS4 classifications, as well as national clinical coding standards and conventions.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Clinical Coding Department to analyze and extract diagnostic and procedural information from electronic patient records, patient case notes, and other computer systems. They will assign appropriate codes to the extracted data, which is then used for comparative and planning purposes at both local and national levels, Clinical Governance, and Finance.

The role requires a vocational level 3 qualification or at least two years of relevant experience in clinical coding. National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC) is also mandatory, with proven ability to use ICD-10 and OPCS-4 coding systems/classifications.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Analyze and extract diagnostic and procedural information from electronic patient records, patient case notes, and other computer systems
  • Assign appropriate codes to the extracted data, using ICD-10 and OPCS4 classifications
  • Produce accurate information to support Healthcare Resource Groups in facilitating the Payment by Results process within the NHS
  • Vocational level 3 qualification or at least two years of relevant experience in clinical coding
  • Extensive understanding of ICD-10 and OPCS4 classifications as well as a thorough understanding of national clinical coding standards and conventions
  • National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC) - proven ability to use ICD-10 and OPCS-4 coding systems/classifications
  • Previous coding experience in an NHS setting
