Job Title: Education Welfare Officer

Job Summary: Aspire People is seeking an experienced Education Welfare Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the attendance of students at one of our schools in Peterborough.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Attendance Management: Complete daily attendance records, investigating any missing data and maintaining accurate attendance records.
  2. Electronic Registration: Update the electronic registration system daily, investigating any missing data with class teachers.
  3. Attendance Reporting: Record student absences and late arrivals on SIMS, maintaining accurate attendance records.
  4. Parental Engagement: Make initial enquiries with parents/carers regarding unexplained absences/lateness, including first day calling.
  5. Attendance Promotion: Promote good attendance within the school.
  6. Holiday Requests: Process and action student holiday requests.
  7. Correspondence: Issue routine correspondence to parents/carers regarding attendance/absence requests in accordance with the school procedure.
  8. Referrals: Assist the Assistant Headteachers with the administration of referrals to the education welfare service/issuing of penalty notices.
  9. Liaison: Undertake routine liaison with external agencies regarding attendance, eg EWO/Attendance Services.
  10. Reporting: Collate attendance data, producing routine reports and preparing statistical returns regarding attendance and submit to reporting bodies where appropriate.
  11. Compliance: Comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  12. Representation: Represent MGGS at regular Attendance Officers meetings.
  13. Liaison with Heads of Study: Liaise with Heads of Study and Assistant Headteachers over attendance concerns.
  14. Attendance Analysis: Identify attendance issues and patterns of absence/late arrivals.
  15. Parental Contact: Contact with parents over all aspects of attendance, including written correspondence when required.
  16. Reporting to Heads of Study: Produce attendance reports for Heads of Study on a weekly basis and other individual reports when requested.
  17. Liaison with External Agencies: Liaise with external agencies over persistent absence or other attendance issues.
  18. Meetings: Attend meetings with external agencies and parents as required.
  19. Administration: Complete administration tasks as directed by the line manager.
