Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Colorectal Specialist Nurse to join our team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care, working in partnership with patients, families, and carers to deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care, specialist nursing advice, and psychological support to patients with colorectal conditions.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, demonstrating a collaborative approach through effective communication and decision-making with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, offering advice and guidance to colleagues.
  • Accurately document and report patient care information to other members of the nursing team and multidisciplinary team.
  • Identify and discuss patient needs with the team, patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team, planning own workload and those of others as required.
Key Objectives
  • Accept patient referrals to agreed criteria and be identified as the key worker for an agreed patient/client caseload.
  • Provide advice, education, and support to patients, their carers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the colorectal service.
  • Work across departmental boundaries and liaise with other hospital and community teams along an agreed pathway to support the delivery of patient and family-centred seamless care.
Person Specification
  • Registered Nurse (Part 1, 8, 12, or 15 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register) or National Certification in area of practice.
  • UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post.
  • Evidence of on-going professional development through maintenance of an NMC revalidation or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a related area.
Desirable
  • Evidence of a career development plan including higher-level Nursing Qualification.
  • Experience of working with colorectal cancer/stoma patients.
Leadership
  • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective care delivery.
