Job Title: Head of Nursing/Nurse Lead
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Head of Nursing/Nurse Lead to join our team at North East London NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and leading a nurse-led catheter clinic for patients with long-term urethral/suprapubic urinary catheters requiring planned re-catheterization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead a team of nurses in the catheter clinic, ensuring high-quality, safe, and effective clinical care is provided to all service users.
- Supervise nurses within the clinic environment and provide guidance and support as needed.
- Provide onward referral to other community/hospital services, including health and social care, to ensure the safe management of patients.
- Establish and maintain links with hospital urology consultants and urology nurse specialists.
- Triage urgent calls via the catheter advice line and arrange for home visits if required.
- Be accountable for own professional actions, adhering to the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) guidelines.

- Education and Training:
- First-level Registered Nurse currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council/BSc (Hons)
- Physical Clinical Assessment Skills Course
- Practice educator or other teaching qualification or equivalent experience
- Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP)
- Desirable:
- Postgraduate diploma in Urology nursing
- Management training or equivalent experience
- Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:
- Previous experience as a RN/Paramedic in a band 6 post or equivalent within a relevant clinical area
- Extensive post-registration experience of managing several types of catheterizations/urology problems
- Personal Qualities:
- Sufficient personal resilience to cope with challenging emotional situations
- Commitment towards own personal and professional development
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills
- Ability to travel to a variety of sites across NELFT (these criteria will be adjusted to meet the requirements of a disabled applicant)
- Assertive and efficient in dealing with people at all levels, in person, writing, and by phone
