Homelessness Prevention Specialist

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of preventing homelessness through imaginative problem-solving and negotiation with private landlords and rental agents. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a busy front-facing customer-focused environment, providing advice and information to vulnerable customers as part of a team to achieve set targets and outcomes.
The role involves working with Part V1 and V11 of the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002, HRA 2017, case law, and Code of Guidance. You will provide a high-quality first point of contact and triage service for people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness and have dependent children or are pregnant or vulnerable.
Your responsibilities will include responding to referrals under the 'Duty to Refer' arrangements, making initial enquiries and triaging as appropriate. You will carry out rapid initial assessments, establish eligibility for assistance under the homelessness legislation, and make s184 decisions. Additionally, you will work to prevent or delay homelessness through targeted early interventions, advocacy, negotiation, and mediation, and provide comprehensive advice and information about housing rights and options.
You will maintain accurate records of interviews, telephone calls, and follow-up actions taken, and ensure that files are maintained to a high standard. Experience of effective multi-disciplinary working, partnership working, liaison, and negotiation with external agencies and partners is essential.
This position offers an opportunity to work on defined operational projects, meeting tight deadlines and objectives with minimal supervision. We estimate this role pays around £24,500 per year.
