Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Database Optimization Specialist to join our team at Leonardo. As a key member of our database team, you will be responsible for optimizing and tuning SQL Server databases to ensure optimal performance.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the largest Microsoft SQL Server instances in the UK, processing over 50 million vehicle movements per day. You will work closely with our customer and development teams to optimize SQL queries and database schemas based on application requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyse and optimise SQL Server databases for performance efficiency
  • Tune complex queries, indexes, and server configurations
  • Develop and implement best practices for database design, tuning, and maintenance
  • Solve performance-related issues using advanced troubleshooting techniques
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve database-related issues
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in database technology

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and its variations among popular databases
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server performance tuning techniques
  • Ability to plan resource requirements from high-level specifications
  • Understanding of database engine internals, including query processing, data storage, and index utilisation
