About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Water Consulting team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering technical outputs, collaborating with other disciplines, and providing engineering input to design outputs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver mechanical design outputs, including technical specifications, sizing and designing pumping systems and aeration systems, schedules, and reports.
  • Collaborate with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners, and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for projects and the community.
  • Work closely with Senior and Principal Engineers and other stakeholders to support project delivery.
  • Develop and mentor junior members within the team.
  • Review and check technical designs, specifications, and reports.
  • Liaise with clients to gain a detailed understanding of project requirements and scope.
  • Undertake asset condition surveys and prepare reports and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the production of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Prepare mechanical design deliverables, including calculations, reports, specifications, datasheets, drawings, schedules, and procurement documentation.
  • Provide support to allow the project team to comply with the duties of the Designer under CDM, including the production of design risk assessments.
  • Ensure Quality Assurance systems and procedures are followed.
Requirements
  • A good technical understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Water Industry experience is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in the design of pumping systems and pump selection.
  • Experience in the use of P&IDs to create equipment, valve, and pipe schedules.
  • Proficiency in the production of specifications.
  • Knowledge of Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations and designing for safety.
  • Experience in managing work to time, cost, and quality criteria.
  • Ability to travel and visit operational and construction sites as required.
  • Knowledge of design tools and software, such as AutoCAD or similar design packages.
