About the Role:

Recra Consulting is working in partnership with an established fabrication/sheet metal company that manufactures a broad range of products and specializes in all aspects of welding and fabrications. Our client is looking to add a Senior Buyer to their team in Coventry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a point of contact between the company and suppliers, identifying potential suppliers based on project requirements and negotiating contracts, terms, and deadlines with vendors and suppliers.
  • Manage the procurement process to ensure goods delivery in a timely manner.
  • Build long-term and stable partnership relationships with key suppliers to maintain continuity of supply, reduce procurement costs, and obtain a competitive advantage in procurement.
  • Analyze procurement demand and the market to achieve objectives of procurement cost control and lower general procurement costs according to business strategies.
  • Identify risks from the evolving procurement environment and set up a risk mitigation plan to maintain consistent supply levels.
  • Organize communication with suppliers periodically to build durable relationships.
  • Maintain a database of components, determine stock levels in distribution, and monitor availability and stock longevity.
  • Organize periodic supplier audits and evaluations to ensure continuation of suitable suppliers on the approved suppliers register.
  • Gather and analyze research material on markets and clients' information for sourcing potential suppliers to ensure validity of procurement strategies.
  • Develop strategies to strengthen the quality of the organization's relationship with the supply base by identifying opportunities to improve the effectiveness of communications and supplier relationship building activities in association with ISO 9001/IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Promote cross-functional participation from all areas of the Sales, Engineering, Production, Finance, and Quality Team.
  • Manage sourcing activities relating to business models via management of RFQ, key sourcing processes, and quotation analysis/negotiation.
  • Devise and agree benchmarks and maintain a strong awareness through investigation of new supply markets and assessing suppliers' capability.
  • Ensure the quality of procured items and address problems when they arise using quality problem-solving techniques such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone.
  • Compile and maintain purchase records, supplier databases, and procurement contracts.
  • Manage suppliers' KPIs.
  • Determine quantity and timing of deliveries.
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.
  • Conduct business review meetings with key stakeholders to assess risk, review future strategies, and identify potential cost-down and improvement opportunities.
  • Advise senior management and improve the procurement process.

Requirements:
  • Strong expertise in engineering procurement.
  • Able to benchmark market pricing and negotiate revised terms with the supplier base.
  • Familiarity with internal MRP systems.
  • Hard working spirit, able to deliver to tight deadlines and workplace pressures.
  • Results-oriented.
  • Proactive, can-do work attitude.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Able to be a credible ambassador for the team.
  • Strong office system skills (Office, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Good understanding of ISO 9001 systems in relation to the Purchasing and Supply function, ideally IATF 16949.
  • Ability to analyze large quantities of data and produce subsequent reports from this data.
