Environmental Health Specialist

Major Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Port Health Officer to join our client's team based in the London Gateway Port, Essex. This exciting role offers a unique blend of regulatory enforcement and operational management.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for implementing biosecurity controls for various products, supervising internal stakeholders, and enforcing legislation to prevent the importation of unfit food or feed consignments. Additionally, they will contribute to the development and maintenance of effective systems for service delivery, adhering to EU-set inspection targets and national FSA Food Law Code of Practice.
Main Responsibilities- Biosecurity Controls: Implement and manage biosecurity controls for Products of Non-Animal Origin (NAOs), fish and fishery products, illegal unregulated and unreported fish controls, organics, and plastics.
- Supervision: Supervise internal stakeholders operating at Border Control Posts, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Legislation Enforcement: Enforce legislation aimed at preventing the importation of unfit, unsound, unwholesome, and non-compliant consignments of food or feed.
- System Development: Contribute to the development and maintenance of effective systems for service delivery, aligned with Departmental and Port Health Service Business Plans.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to EU-set inspection targets, national FSA Food Law Code of Practice, and Port Health International, National, London & Local priorities.
- Initiatives and Efficiency: Develop new ideas and lead initiatives to improve efficiencies and meet regulatory standards, incorporating best practices as necessary.
- Administrative Requirements: Carry out administrative requirements, including daily use of PHILKIS, IPAFFS, FSS, M3, and port inventory systems.
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Environmental Health approved by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. They should have significant technical knowledge and experience, extensive knowledge of relevant national or international legislation, guidance, and industry good practice, as well as experience in drafting and servicing enforcement notices.
Key Skills and Qualifications- A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Environmental Health approved by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
- Significant technical knowledge and experience in environmental health.
- Extensive knowledge of relevant national or international legislation, guidance, and industry good practice.
- Experience in drafting and servicing enforcement notices.
