Support Worker for Deaf Learners in Shetland Islands

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Support Worker to join our team in Shetland Islands Council. As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring that D/deaf pupils have access to education and enjoy a typical school experience.


The successful candidate will work closely with the Qualified Teacher of the Deaf and other school staff to develop flexible and high-quality education that meets the needs of D/deaf learners within an inclusive environment.


Key responsibilities include understanding individual learner's needs, developing and using communication strategies, and working closely with the QTOD to ensure the quality of the curriculum delivered is linked to national and local guidelines.


A strong understanding of the barriers faced by d/Deaf people, particularly in education settings, is essential for this role. The ideal candidate will be focused on and responsive to learners' needs, with strong communication skills and the ability to listen accurately in noisy surroundings.
