Strategic Communications Leader for NIHR Bristol BRC and ARC West

As a Communications Manager for Research Infrastructure and Partnerships, you will play a key role in promoting the work of the Bristol Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and the Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) West, two local parts of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) infrastructure. Your primary duty is to promote the work of these organisations to a wide range of targeted audiences, with responsibility for planning and implementing communications projects. You will support and work alongside the Head of Communications, with autonomy to both lead and develop projects, and prioritise workload. Deputise for the Head of Communications as required.

Develop and implement the NIHR Bristol BRC's communication strategy, including establishing relationships with researchers and theme managers, promoting a communications culture within the organisation, developing communications products, and advising the leadership team and other key groups on the strategy. Lead on the development, sourcing, writing and editing of content and produce communications materials on complex scientific and health-related issues, tailoring to target audiences. Lead and co-ordinate the development of press releases and news articles involving other research institutions. Liaise with NIHR's central communications team to showcase NIHR Bristol BRC's work during national campaigns.

Key to your success will be your ability to communicate complex information to various audiences, managing digital channels including websites and social media, and collaborating in multi-disciplinary teams. You will also be responsible for advising and influencing at many levels, handling journalists and media, and communicating science and health-related information. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance competing deadlines and busy work programmes.

If you are a communications professional with experience of delivering communication campaigns across a range of channels and organisations, and have a solid understanding of communication best practice, including a solid understanding of accessibility issues, we encourage you to apply. You will be educated to graduate level, or with experience to the equivalent level, and have advanced communication skills across a range of media.
