Job Description:

The Association of British and Irish Wild Animal Keepers is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Head of Animals Manager at the Welsh Mountain Zoo. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic direction and guidance to the animal care team, ensuring the highest standard of care and welfare for all animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic direction and guidance to the animal care team.
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive compliance and best practice in animal care.
  • Work closely with the Director of Living Collections to plan and implement animal-related projects and improvements.
  • Manage budgets and oversee procurement for the husbandry team.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years leadership experience working in a BIAZA/EAZA accredited zoo, wildlife park.
  • Minimum Level 6 qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Experience of husbandry across a wide range of taxa.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all statutory and membership requirements of operating a modern zoo.
