Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Events Manager to lead the development of our public events programme at our Midlands site. As a key member of our Events team, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and managing all aspects of our public events, including key partner development, audience development, and events budgeting.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working in a busy public events function, with strong project or event management skills and the ability to articulate the Museum's purpose and objectives. You will be confident in engaging with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels, both internally and externally, and have the ability to motivate and provide confidence to team members.

The Public Events Manager will work closely with the Head of Events and Catering to develop our Public Events strategy and how it is applied to the relevant location. This will include responsibility for all aspects of event planning, delivery, and management, as well as key partner development and management, audience development, and events budgeting.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Museum's purpose and objectives, and be able to support their team to see their role within it. They will be able to confidently engage with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels, both internally and externally, and have the ability to motivate and provide confidence to team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work with the Head of Events and Catering to develop our Public Events strategy, that articulates the long-term objectives of the programme across all Museum sites and audience groups
  • To lead the development of the annual public events plan for Midlands, providing a schedule for each event that comprises the programme and outlines our key commercial and visitor experience goals for each event
  • To lead the implementation of the public events programme at Midlands, including taking responsibility for the management of major public events and the delegation of selected elements of the programme to the Public Events Executive, where appropriate
  • To take lead responsibility for the management and development of 1 FTE, including all aspects of objective and appraisal setting and the development of all training and development objectives
  • To take lead responsibility for the management of the Public Events Volunteers, working with our Volunteering team to develop the team
  • To work closely with the Operations and Visitor Experience team to deliver events, including staff briefings for events and training to deliver activities
  • To take lead responsibility for the development of all post-event analytics and their dissemination to key stakeholders around the Museum, working closely with the Campaigns and Digital Marketing teams to ensure event analytics are effectively integrated into our wider Audience Development Plan
  • To work closely with the Marketing and PR department to develop marketing plans for events, design work, and copy
